About Semenyih

The town is becoming less and less hidden as the Kuala Lumpur conurbation (usually called the Klang Valley) expands. The town shares its name with the Semenyih River, which is the main river passing near the town. The catchment area of this river is an important source of water for Kuala Lumpur and other parts of the Klang Valley.

The surrounding area is quite hilly, the highest peak nearby being Bukit Arang, 560 m (1838 ft) high. This makes the area home to numerous scenic waterfalls. A more popular tourist attraction in the town is the Ostrich Wonderland Show Farm. The town is rapidly becoming more accessible, thanks to new highways (such as the Kajang-Seremban Highway and the Kajang SILK Highway), and more attractive due to new development (including, for example, the Malaysian campus of the University of Nottingham). This transformation from town to metropolis is also reflected in the growth in its population.

The 15100 people recorded in the 1991 census had grown to over 45000 by 2000. This corresponds to an annual growth rate of 12.9%, compared with the national average of 2.66% over the same period.

About Bandar Puncak Alam

Puncak Alam is a main township in Kuala Selangor district in Selangor, Malaysia. It is located approximately 20 kilometers in the Northwest direction from Shah Alam, the state capital of Selangor.

Previously developed from a palm estate holding of FELDA (Federal Land Development Authority) within the locale of Bukit Cherakah, this township started its initial development during the late 90's under the management of Bukit Cherakah Development Sdn Bhd, a private company based in Shah Alam the capital of state of Selangor. The developer later on, beginning from 15 May 2001 was superseded and transformed into the current Puncak Alam Housing Sdn Bhd as the principal developer and sales office for the real estates/properties within this particular township.

First launched with the estimated total area of 14,000 acres (57 km2) for the whole township, subsequent development sees the actual land parcel being apportioned and jointly developed with third party developers, resulting in the emergence of sub-townships within the vicinity under new names and concepts (such as Alam Perdana, Alam Jaya, Shah Alam 2, Ambang Suria), whilst the initially earmarked land area for Puncak Alam being significantly reduced in size.

Future Development

A development plan dated 9 September 2008 released by Majlis Daerah Kuala Selangor (MDKS), the local authority responsible for the administration of the Kuala Selangor District, among others disclosed that future expansion for this township would include the completion of a university (UITM) by the year 2014, on an area demarcated of 1,085.75 acres (4.3939 km2), comprising 15 faculties capable of supporting 40,000 students and staffs.

The same report projected that 65,798 additional units of houses/residences would be completed by the year 2015, capable of accommodating 350,000 population as compared to the current reported number of population of 25,000.

The latest Local Planning Masterplan for the year 2015 released by MDKS envision the addition of a water theme park and also a Light Rail Transit facility (linking Bestari Jaya, Puncak Alam and Shah Alam).
